Galerie Véro-Dodat

Opened in 1826 by two pork butchers, Véro and Dodat, this arcade links rue du Bouloi to rue Jean-Jacques-Rousseau. It is one of the best-preserved in Paris: black-and-white chequered floor, fluted columns, mirrors and painted ceilings.

It was among the first to be gas-lit, which made it a fashionable curiosity. Today violin makers, galleries and fashion houses have replaced the original shops. Tip: it is very short and takes ten minutes; combine it with the Palais-Royal and Galerie Vivienne for a covered-arcade route.
