Erected in 1844 on Rue de Richelieu, a few metres from the house where Molière died in 1673, this fountain was funded by public subscription.

The architect Louis Visconti and the sculptor Bernard Seurre show the playwright seated, flanked by figures of Serious Comedy and Light Comedy.
