Rue de la Ferronnerie

This shopping street in Les Halles once ran along the wall of the Innocents cemetery. On 14 May 1610, Henri IV's carriage was held up here by a jam of carts; François Ravaillac seized the moment to stab the king, who died shortly afterwards. A ground marker in front of no. 11 and a plaque recall the attack. Ravaillac was tortured and quartered on the Place de Grève on 27 May.
