The colonnaded façade seen from Place de la Concorde is not the original one: built in 1722 for the Duchess of Bourbon, the Palais-Bourbon received this neoclassical portico under Napoleon, between 1806 and 1810, to mirror the Madeleine across the Seine.
The sculpted pediment, remade under the Restoration, shows France flanked by Strength and Justice. Behind it, the chamber has hosted parliamentary debates since 1798.
