Pont Saint-Michel
A bridge has stood here since 1378, repeatedly swept away by floods and rebuilt. The current version dates from 1857, part of the Haussmann works that cleared Place Saint-Michel.
It links the Île de la Cité to the Latin Quarter and packs the Saint-Michel fountain, the bouquinistes and the outline of the Sainte-Chapelle into a few metres. A plaque recalls the repression of 17 October 1961.
Tip: cross towards the Left Bank then head down Rue de la Huchette. Five minutes to cross, longer if you browse the riverside book stalls.
