Pont Royal
The third oldest bridge in Paris after the Pont Neuf and the Pont Marie, the Pont Royal was built between 1685 and 1689 on the site of a ferry and then a wooden bridge swept away by a flood. Louis XIV financed its construction entirely, hence its name.
Its five stone arches link the Tuileries Garden to the Quai Voltaire, offering one of the finest Seine crossings, between the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay. A water gauge installed under one arch has measured the river's level since the 18th century.
