Place Émile-Goudeau
At the top of the Montmartre hill, Place Émile-Goudeau keeps the memory of the Bateau-Lavoir, the studio where Picasso painted "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" and where Modigliani, Braque and Apollinaire gathered. A small shaded square now occupies the site of the original building, destroyed by fire in 1970.
It is one of the calmest squares on the hill, frequented by budding painters and lovers of artists' Paris. The rebuilt façade of the Bateau-Lavoir is still visible at number 13.
