Musée Montmartre
Housed in the Maison du Bel Air, the oldest building on the Butte (17th century), the Musée de Montmartre occupies the very rooms where Renoir, Suzanne Valadon, Maurice Utrillo, Raoul Dufy and Émile Bernard lived and worked.
The collections tell the story of the Montmartre of cabarets, the Chat Noir and the Lapin Agile, through posters, paintings and photographs. Valadon and Utrillo's studio-apartment has been recreated, and the replanted Renoir gardens look out over the only vineyard in Paris. Tip: it is the antidote to the crowds of Place du Tertre, a hundred metres away; aim for late afternoon in the gardens.
