Dina Vierny, Aristide Maillol's model from the age of fifteen to twenty-five, devoted her life to promoting his work and opened this museum in 1995 in the Hôtel Bouchardon on rue de Grenelle, an 18th-century building flanked by the Four Seasons fountain.

Alongside the Maillol collection — drawings, terracottas, bronzes — are the artists Vierny championed: Matisse, Bonnard, Dufy, Kandinsky, as well as naive art and Soviet nonconformists.
