Musée de la Libération de Paris
Opened in 2019 above Place Denfert-Rochereau, in the pavilion where General Leclerc set up his command post in August 1944, the Liberation Museum tells the story of Fighting France through the journeys of Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque and Jean Moulin.
The highlight: the descent into the civil defence shelter 20 metres underground, a surprisingly well-preserved network of galleries. Objects, archive films and testimonies make history tangible and moving.
Tip: entry to the permanent collections is free, but the shelter visit requires booking. Allow 1.5 hours. Combine with the Catacombs, just opposite.
