Mémorial de la Shoah
Opened in 2005 on rue Geoffroy-l'Asnier, the Shoah Memorial brings together the Tomb of the Unknown Jewish Martyr, created in 1956, a permanent museum, a documentation centre and a library. The Wall of Names at the entrance carries the engraved names of the 76,000 Jews deported from France between 1942 and 1944, including 11,000 children.
The museum traces pre-war Jewish life in France, persecution, the round-ups and deportation, through archives, photographs and testimony. The Wall of the Righteous honours those who saved lives. Tip: entry is free; allow at least an hour and a half, and note the memorial is closed on Saturdays.
