Jardins d'Éole
Opened in 2007 on former railway land in La Chapelle, the Jardins d'Éole were won through years of campaigning by residents of north-east Paris, who demanded a large green space in a heavily built-up district. The park stretches for nearly 4 hectares along the tracks of the Gare de l'Est.
Its elongated shape makes it as much a walking route as a garden: lawns, community plots, a sports pitch and a filtering pond follow one another, with trains as a backdrop. Tip: enter from rue d'Aubervilliers and leave on the rue Riquet side to reach the Canal Saint-Martin and the Bassin de la Villette on foot.
