Hôtel de Sens
Built between 1475 and 1519 for the archbishops of Sens, on whom Paris then depended, the Hôtel de Sens is one of only three surviving medieval mansions in the capital, alongside the Hôtel de Cluny and the Hôtel de Clisson.
Corner turrets, a stair turret and a carriage gate give it the look of a small urban castle, a surprise in the heart of the Marais. Marguerite de Valois, Queen Margot, lived here in the early 17th century. Restored in the 20th century, it now houses the Forney library, devoted to the decorative arts. Tip: the formal garden at the back is free to enter and often empty.
