Église Saint-Vincent-de-Paul
Dominating Place Franz-Liszt with its twin towers, Saint-Vincent-de-Paul was built in the 19th century on the site of the mother house of the Lazarists, where the saint's body was long venerated. Its great monumental staircase recalls that of Roman basilicas.
The interior, topped by a frieze by Flandrin showing the procession of saints towards Christ, is one of the finest achievements of 19th-century religious painting. The saint is still venerated here in a glass reliquary.
Tip: allow 20 minutes. Climb the staircase for the view over the square. Combine with Gare du Nord and Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis.
