Atelier des Lumières
Housed in the former Chemin-Vert foundry, founded in 1835 and active until 1929, the Atelier des Lumières opened in 2018 as the first digital art centre in Paris. The 10-metre-high hall, with a 140 m² tank, was kept in its industrial state.
One hundred and forty video projectors cover 3,300 m² of walls and floors with moving images and a spatialised soundtrack: immersive shows devoted to Klimt, Van Gogh and Chagall have drawn several million visitors. Tip: the loop lasts about 35 minutes; sitting on the floor in the main hall, away from the entrance, gives the strongest sense of immersion.
